Gibbons riverside Echo Glen Park is rich in history. You can walk the 2 km walking trail (part of the Athabasca and TransCanada Trails) along tracks used by the freight wagons to bring goods from Fort Edmonton to Athabasca Landing in the late 1800's. Residents and visitors can fish for trout in the stocked fish pond, share a picnic in the park or just enjoy the unmatched scenery.
The town also enjoys numerous other recreational opportunities including playgrounds, a skate park, tennis courts, an ice arena and curling rink, as well as a cool spray park and a community ice cream stand for those hot summer days.
Family day, February 13th, starts the year with a day of crafts, games and a dance for all ages. Early spring (May 15th) families gather for the annual Gibbons Museum’s Chicken Dinner and Silent Auction.
On July 1st, the community comes together to commemorate Canada’s birthday with lots of fun events to celebrate the past and present. The Tour de l’ Alberta races through Gibbons on July 16th.
On Thursdays, throughout the summer months venders converge on the Curling Rink, to sell their wears and home grown produce at the Gibbons Farmers Market.
History comes alive at the Sturgeon River Historical Society's Museum located at 4723 - 48 Avenue, in the centre of Gibbons. Open Wednesday to Sunday 10 am - 6 pm, the museum offers many special events through out the year. For more information phone 780-923-3503.
The second Saturday in September, Gibbons hosts one of the largest Town Wide Garage Sale in Alberta. People from all over attend in hopes of finding bargains at the numerous stalls in the downtown core or at the numerous household sales held throughout the town.
